How to set up your iPhone for MIDI-connection to your Mac and host DAW
Cable (Recommended. Minimal latency).
- Connect iPhone to a Mac computer via suitable cable.
- Open the “Audio MIDI Setup” application on your Mac and click “Enable” next to the iPhone icon. The center area text in the Motion Controller app should now change to “Hold to Play”.
- Load a preset containing motion slots in OneShot2 and you’re ready to start shaking! [Note: in some hosts you need to enable the new MIDI Device]
All OneShot2 motion presets and the Motion Controller app are set to note A1 by default. If you wish to play different trigger notes you can change note in Motion Controller and make sure the corresponding note in OneShot2 has a motion trigger set to External sync (Mod wheel).
- Locate and open the “Audio MIDI Setup” application.
- Under “Window” in the macOS menu bar (on top of your screen), select “Show MIDI Studio”.
- Click on the Bluetooth-icon (or double arrow and then “Configure devices” in the top right corner if window is minimized). This opens the configuration window.
- Click “Advertise” in the Configuration window.
- Press the Bluetooth button in the settings section of the Motion Controller app. This opens an iOS-page.
- Press Not Connected in the iOS-page. This should set the iPhone to Connected. You can now tap the screen and the Motion Controller app center area should have switched to Hold to Play.
- OneShot2 motion presets and the Motion Controller app are set to note A1 by default.
Optimizing temporal resolution for control change messages when recording MIDI in different DAW:s
Logic Pro
Go to File > Project Settings > Recording and disable “MIDI data reduction”.
ProTools
No action needed.
Ableton
No action needed. (Does not have a specific feature to enhance temporal resolution for control change messages when recording MIDI).
Cubase
No action needed.
FL Studio
No action needed in most cases. The default PPQ value in FL Studio is set to 96, and this will impact the recorded MIDI on low tempos (below 80). Increase the PPQ value if you want to be on the safe side. Options > Project > “Time Settings”
Bitwig
No action needed. (Does not have a specific feature to enhance temporal resolution for control change messages when recording MIDI).
